Becoming a Better Steward

  -

We are not the owner of our life – God is. But, we are the steward of our life… stewards accountable to God for everything we do with our life!

Proverbs 16:3 | “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

Proverbs 16:3 | “Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.”

Will you trust God with the plans for your life?
Will you trust that God has a greater plan for your life?
Will you steward the life and gift God has given you?

Proverbs 19:21 | “A person may have many ideas concerning God’s plan for his life, but only the designs of his purpose will succeed in the end.”

Stewardship involves carrying out God’s plans with the giftings and resources He has given us.

The resources God has entrusted to you are far more than finances.

1 Peter 4:10 | “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

Typically, we will say to someone “You have a gift…you could do anything you want.” But the more accurate saying would be “God has entrusted to you a gift…what does He want you to do with it?”

STEWARDSHIP IS A RESPONSIBILITY OF TRUST.

1 Corinthians 4:1-2 | “Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.”

Servants are under-rowers (like oars in a ship). Only the captain can see where you are going.
Servants and stewards are not in charge – Jesus is in charge.

Is Jesus in charge of you and everything in your life?
Will I trust God with how He wants to use my life?
Can God trust me with what He has placed in my life?

Proverbs 21:20 | “There is desirable treasure, and oil in the dwelling of the wise, But a foolish man squanders it.”

We all have a desirable treasure – things God has placed within us.

The question is, are we squandering the giftings God has given us?

1 | GOD TRUSTS US WITH CALLINGS AND ASSIGNMENTS.

1 Corinthians 9:17 | “For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.”

You have a calling to advance the gospel even if it is not preaching.

2 | GOD TRUSTS US WITH THE HEART OF OUR SPOUSE.

Proverbs 31:11 | “Her husband has entrusted his heart to her, for she brings him the rich spoils of victory.”

The narcissist focuses on how their heart is being handled.
The steward focuses on how they are handling the heart of our spouse.

3 | GOD TRUSTS US WITH FINANCIAL RESOURCES.

Proverbs 3:9 | “Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase…”

The Bible does say a great deal about stewardship with our finances.

4 | GOD TRUSTS US WITH GIFTINGS OF INFLUENCE.

Proverbs 18:16 | “A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.”

Other verses speak of a gift as a bribe – this is not the same Hebrew word.
The connotation is that a gift (natural or spiritual) can open a door.
It doesn’t mean only great men of power, but to influence the right people.

Our giftings are meant to be used to influence others for Kingdom purposes.
How are you using your giftings to influence others?

Pastors are stewards of the giftings of the people of their church.
A pastor cannot steward what a person will not offer.
